It took a while for the alarm bell to go off for the Cloquet volleyball team on Wednesday night in their Section 7AA opener against Proctor. The Lumberjacks trailed the Rails 8-0 and 11-3 before bouncing back and taking a 3-0 win in Cloquet.

“Proctor came out strong and we were not ready to respond,” said Cloquet coach Jen Anderson.

Once the Jacks responded, they did so in full force by taking a 25-18, 25-11 and 25-22 win.

Cloquet had a diversified front row attack with strong net play from a number of players. Katie Schulz finished with 7 kills, 9 digs and 3 ace serves. Maddie Kiehn and Emily Fossen each had six kills, Abbi Parenteau finished with eight kills and five digs.

Running the offense smoothly was eighth grade setter, Alex Oakes, who finished with 21-set assists and seven digs and in the back row the strong play of libero, Kierra Johnson, who had 10 digs and three ace serves kept Cloquet in the match early while they struggled to get the offense in gear.

A key to the win in game two was Ahnna Peterson’s serving as the senior finished with the final five service points of which four were ace serves.

The Jacks will move on the play
on Friday
against Crosby Ironton in Esko.
