ALBROOK – If the talent and effort on the court in Wednesday’s Subsection 1 playoff contest between AlBrook and Cotton is any indication of things to come, then the future of volleyball at the new AlBrook-Cotton school looks very good. While still on opposite sides, AlBrook won the playoff matchup with a 3-0 victory over Cotton.

AlBrook continued their winning ways with a three set sweep of Cotton. AlBrook was led by a host of Falcons in a well fought contest by both teams. The Lady Falcons were paced by Junior Captain Kourtney Karppinen’s 100% serving as she combined with Junior Kendra Dahlman for 21 total match kills. Junior Setter Alyssa Johnson continued what she has done best all season, by adding 24 set assists.

Once again eighth grade sensation Justice Janke stepped up when the Falcons needed her most by adding 7 kills and 7 ace serves.

Sara Matuzak’s Cardinals finish off the final volleyball season for Cotton 10-8 as Sophomore Angel Hall paced Cotton with 5 kills and combined with Senior Colby Chapman for 13 assists.

The scrappy Cardinals were coming off a win over Fond du Lac on Monday in the first round of the playoffs. Cotton had their chances in the third set before AlBrook Senior Cassidy Capriglione closed the door on the Cardinals with 4 straight points.

AlBrook improves to 16-5 overall and now faces Cook County at 6PM on Friday at Virginia High school, the Vikings are the number one seed of Subsection 1.
