Bombers Win 5-Game Volleyball Thriller

The Barnum Bombers and the Carlton Bulldogs met Tuesday night in Barnum in what was the last regular season match for both teams. It proved to be an outstanding matchup as the Bomber prevailed in the end, coming away with the 3-2 win at home.


Carlton came out strong and took the first game of the match 25-23. The Bombers battled back and took the second game 25-21 to make the match all square at one game apiece. Carlton bounced back and took the third game of the match by coming away with another close win at 25-23.


With the Bombers trailing, it was another tight battle for the Bombers, but Barnum bounced back to take the fourth game and tie the match at 2-2. In the last game of the match it again was a tight battle. However, Barnum would defeat the Bulldogs 15-10 and win the match while clinching second place in the Polar League behind the Esko Eskomos.


Jessica Newman finished the night with 25 kills and 47 digs on the night. Newman was 21-22 serving for a serve percentage of 95%. Her teammate Karianna Duesler helped out with 34 set assists, 3 ace serves, and 12 digs. Allainie Hanek-Siltanen added 9 kills 22 digs; she also finished 21-22 serving on the night.


Barnum finishes their regular season with an overall record of 14-10, 9-1 in conference play while playing some of their best volleyball down the stretch, winning four of their last five matches. Barnum will be playing sectional action in 5A; the seedings come out on Monday.


The Bulldogs fall to 12-13 overall on the season and they will start section 7A Playoffs next week. The Bulldogs enter the playoffs struggling winning only one of their last five matches down the stretch.
