WILLOW
RIVER
– The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels showed just how powerful they are for a second week in a row by defeating a very good Esko team by a score of 49-6. Last week the Rebels toppled Braham, a 6-1 team at the time by a score of 54-14.

In the win, the Rebels went over the 400 point mark for the season, outscoring their opponents by a total score of 402-33, including four shutouts.

The Rebels opened the scoring first with a 35 yard rushing touchdown from Holden Olson. After Mr. Automatic, Mike Bennett tacked on the first of his seven extra points on the evening the Rebels led 7-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, after establishing a good running game, Nick Tokar executed a beautiful fake to the fullback and threw a 10 yard touchdown to Tyler Huso. Then taking advantage of good field position Olson scored his second touchdown of the game, this time on a 13 yard scamper, putting the Rebels up 21-0.

Esko appeared to make a game of it and climb back into the mix when
Connor Tollerud scored on a sweep from 8 yards out, cutting the lead to 21-6. Unfortunately for the Eskomos, that would be as close as they would get when just before halftime Tokar answered back with a 25 yard td pass to Nathan Van Zee, giving the Rebels a 28-6 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Chris Gassert picked things up where the Rebels left them at the half, scoring on a 5 yard run. Jacob Disterhaupt and Josh Cisar also scored on runs of 14 and 1 yard respectively, sending the game into run time and a scoreless fourth quarter.

All in all the Rebels racked up 345 yards rushing and another 79 through the air for a total of 424 total yards.

The #4 state ranked Moose Lake–Willow River Rebels will open the playoffs at home on Tuesday at 7:00pm when they host the 0-8 Rush City Tigers.
