Esko native and University of Wisconsin-Superior alum, Bill Hudspith, was elected into the UWS Athletic Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Hudspith with join another Esko native, Dave Esse, who played hockey in Cloquet and for the Yellowjackets in the prestigious Hall of Fame.

“It was a great place to go to school and learn,” said Hudspith. “It was an enjoyable time and I met a lot of great people.”

Hudspith played defensive back on the Yellowjacket football team as a freshman and then left to attend Moorhead State for a year before coming back and finishing up as the quarterback on the football team as well as throwing discus and javelin on the track team. Hudspith won the conference discus title his senior season and went to the national NAIA track meet his senior year in both the discus and the javelin. He is the current head coach of the Esko Eskomos football team.

“UWS has had a number of real well known sports figures including guys like Mertz Mortorelli,” mentioned Hudspith. “Not only did they have top notch sports people, but they also had great professors and that allowed you to learn a lot of things from coaching philosophies to life long lessons.”

Hudspith will be inducted in ceremonies later this summer.
