Lumberjack Golfers Finish Second at Cloquet Invite

The Cloquet Lumberjack golf team had a good day on Monday with
their best finish of the season. The Lumberjacks took second in their invitational meet at the Cloquet Country Club.

“Some of the guys are starting to really come around. I am very proud of Andrew Castle. He loves the game and works hard at it,” said head coach Tom McFarlane. He continued, “Derek Schrecengost has been a pleasant surprise this year. He has been solid all season. He plays smart and within himself..If we can get some of the guys going who have been there for us in the past, we can take a run at the end of the year.” Matt Carlson did a great job as tournament director on Monday.

The Lumberjacks shot a team score of 326 to finish behind the champion Hermantown Hawks, who shot a 306. Superior finished third shooting a 334. Duluth East split teams as they finished fourth and fifth with the East Red team at 336 and the Grey team shooting 338. Esko-Carlton finished eighth shooting 365 and Moose Lake Willow River finished twelfth shooting a 394.

The individual medalist was Joe Kozlak of Duluth Marshall, who shot a 73. Trevor DeRoche and Alex Kolquist, both from Hermantown, finished second and third shooting a 74 and 75, respectively. Cloquet’s Andrew Castle finished in fourth place shooting a 77.

Derek Schrecengost carded a 78 and finished in eighth place. Other Lumberjack golfers finished as follows: Danny Nelson 83, Karl Palmquist 88, Ryan Korby 90 and Jack McFarlane.

Jack Pelletier from Esko-Carlton shot an 88 for their low golfer and Jacob Indihar was Moose Lake Willow River’s low golfer,
shooting a 90 on Monday. The Lumberjacks have a very busy week this week. They are in action again on Wednesday at Nemadji for a Lake Superior Conference meet. Thursday, they play at Northland and on Friday they play up in Hibbing.
