Rebels Continue Dominance With 65-0 Win

WILLOW RIVER- It took a little while to get going Friday night but when the Rebels did it was another dominating performance as the Rebels notched their second straight shutout, and their fourth of the season with an easy win over Two Harbors by a final score of 65-0 in Willow River.


The Rebels scored first on a 4 yard run by Holden Olson and a Mike Bennett kick made it 7-0 which is how the first quarter ended. The second quarter saw the Rebels extend their lead to 28-0 as the Rebels scored three times. Olson scored for the second time in the game, the second time was a 26 yard run and the extra point was good to make it 14-0. Cody Schmidt scored on a 3 yard run and it was a 5 yard touchdown pass from Nick Tokar to Nathan VanZee for the third score.


The Rebels continued the scoring barrage in the third quarter, adding 16 more points on a 36 yard run from Chris Gassert, a 37 yard run from Josh Cisar and a safety by the Rebels defense giving the Rebels a 44-0 lead over the Agates after the third quarter.


Adam Johnsen, BJ Young, and Michael Gassert all added touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Rebels pounded out the shutout win. Mike Bennett converted on seven extra points on the night. In all the Rebels had eight different players score touchdowns.


The defense stood out again as the Rebels forced three turnovers on the night and a safety. Trevor Nummela had two interceptions and BJ Young had a fumble recovery which turned into a 36 yard touchdown for Young. Abe Young, Spencer Clough, Cody Schmidt, and Jake Christopherson all had six tackles in the Rebels win.


The Rebels now improve to 6-0 on the season and will play at Braham on Friday night. The Bombers are 5-1 and in second place in the section 7AA standings. Two Harbors falls to 2-4 on the season and have lost four straight games. The Agates will play at Grand Rapids on Friday night.
