HERMANTOWN – Steven Spencer had a Friday to remember, helping the Hermantown Hawks to a huge 34-14 Sea Range Conference win over Hibbing. Spencer rushed for a touchdown, caught a 25 yd pass for another, recorded an interception and was crowned homecoming king, all in the same night.

Spencer got Hermantown on the board first with a 16 yard touchdown run and after a Parker Anderson kick; the Hawks had a 7-0 first quarter lead. In the second quarter Spencer scored again. This time on a 25 yard pass from Cody Baker. The kick failed but Hermantown had a 13-0 lead.

Hibbing answered back, starting on their own 9 yard line, the Bluejackets used most of the second quarter to go on a 19 play drive, all on the ground and capped by a 3 yard td run by quarterback Nick Milani. Hibbing failed on a conversion pass off a botched extra point snap, but cut the lead to 13-6 at halftime.

Taking advantage of good field position courtesy of a 65 yard kickoff return by Dan Padden, Cory Anderson scored on a 2 yard run. C. Anderson then caught a conversion pass from Baker to put the Hawks up 21-7. Hermantown opened the lead further when Jeff Schade caught an 8 yard td pass from Baker. After a P. Anderson kick the Hawks lead was extended to 28-6.

Still in the third quarter, Hibbing cut the lead to 28-14 on a 27 yard Milani to Ezra Coughlin pass and Jake Pullar conversion run, but that was as close as the Bluejackets would get.

C. Anderson capped off the scoring on the evening with a 13 yard run, the kick went just wide but Hermantown had the 34-14 win under their belt.

Jeremy Peterson was once again the workhorse for the Hawks, carrying 21 times for 104 yards. Corey Anderson rushed 10 times for 55 yards and two scores. Patton rushed 9 times for 55 yards while Spencer had two carries for 22 yards, caught 1 pass for 25 yards and scored the previously mentioned two touchdowns. Cody Baker was 2-7 for 40 yards, with both passes going for touchdowns.

Hibbing was led by Pullar, whose tough running yielded him 66 yards on 12 carries.

With the win the Hawks even their record at 3-3. They will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Cloquet to take on the Lumberjacks. Hibbing remains winless on the year and will host International Falls on Friday.
