The Barnum Bombers improved to 5-1 Friday night with a 22-8 victory over the Lions of Ogilvie High School at Ogilvie. The Bombers spotted the Lions an 8-0 lead but came back and with two great defensive stands came away with a huge section win.

The Lions took the opening kickoff and marched down the field, scoring the first touchdown of the game and taking an 8-0 lead. Barnum did answer right back as Josh Hogan scored the game tying touchdown on the first Barnum possession. Hogan also added the two point conversion and the Bombers and the Lions were tied at 8-8.

Barnum then took the lead in the second quarter as Hector Chavez reeled off a huge touchdown run and the Bombers led 14-8. The two point conversion was no good and the Bombers took that 14-8 lead into halftime. The game remained 14-8 late into the fourth quarter when Barnum held on a goal line stand for the second time of the game. The Bombers then drove 95 yards and would score to make the game a 22-8 contest and that’s where it would end.

Hector Chavez scored his second touchdown of the game in that drive and he also ran in the two-point conversion in for the Bombers. Chavez finished with 140 yards rushing on 13 carries and his two touchdowns. Hogan finished with 166 yards rushing on 26 carries as the Bombers improve to 5-1 on the season and 4-1 in section play.

The Bombers will host Ely on Friday night in another section battle at home before closing out the regular season at Carlton on Wednesday October 20th. The Lions fall to 3-3 on the season, and to 2-3 in section play. The Lions are home again next week as the host Cook County and they will close out the regular season against Ely.
