The defending Section 7A baseball champions, the Floodwood Polar Bears, were shocked in their first round matchup on Tuesday, when the Silver Bay Mariners shut them out 3-0 and sent them home with an early exit.

The Mariners had a spectacular pitching performance from Lucas Small who pitched a complete game, only surrendering 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Jonah Koehler had 2 RBI’s while going 2-4 for Silver Bay. Marcus Small went 2-3 in the win as well.

Tanner Haggedahl took the loss for the Polar Bears, pitching 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1. Ricky Baker was the offense for the Polar Bears, as he went 2-3 in the loss.

The Mariners advanced to play the 3rd seeded South Ridge Panthers later that evening and they would storm past them, winning 9-2 and setting up their date with Ely on May 29th. The Mariners are now 5-6.

The Polar Bears ended their season with a 8-4 record and will lose 3 seniors, but will be returning a large crop of juniors for next years squad.
