Hawks back to Section Finals

The Hermantown Hawks advanced back to the section 7AA finals for the second consecutive season Tuesday afternoon ad the Hawks defeated Pequot Lakes by a score of 3-1 in a match-up of two unbeaten teams in the double elimination tournament.

Kailey Mihalik scored a unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning which gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead, as they would go on to the two run win over the Patriots. Pequot Lakes scored first in the top of the first inning when they collected three straight two out hits as Hannah Zimmerman drove in Katie White with the lone Patriots run of the game.

The Hawks tied things up ay 1-1 in the bottom of the third when Tess Johnson singled then scored on a RBI double from Jordyn Thomas. Macy Francisco scored the Hawks third run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to add an insurance run.

Kylie Hoff was the winning pitcher on Tuesday as she allowed only one run on six hits while striking out the batters. The Hawks will face the Patriots again Thursday at Braun Park in the section 7AA championship as the Patriots rebounded in the losers bracket defeating Cloquet 4-3.
