The Carlton Bulldogs and South Ridge Panthers matched up on Tuesday in the first round of the Section 7A playoffs. It was the Bulldogs falling to the Panthers 9-1.

The story of the game was the inconsistency behind the plate with a near non-existent strike zone. The Bulldogs walked a total of 13 batters and didn’t know where they had to place the ball for it to be called a strike with the zone continuously jumping.

The Bulldogs as a whole only surrendered 5 hits in the game and only allowed 4 earned runs in the game. Taking the loss for the Bulldogs was Brytton George who pitched, walking 6, striking out 4, and allowing 4 runs, with only 1 earned. Sam Macor went 2-3 for the Bulldogs and drove in their lone run on the day. Dominic Bennett also went 2-3 in the loss.

Taking home the win for the Panthers was Vinny Wood who pitched 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 7 hits and striking out 7. Cole Williams led the team by going 2-4 with 2 RBI’s and Matt Wood also had 2 RBI’s, going 1-2 with a double.

The Panthers advanced to play the 7th seeded Silver Bay Mariners later that night and dropped that game 9-2. The Panthers current record stands at 7-8 and their next game for the Panthers will be on May 29th when they play in a win or go home situation against the Chisholm Bluestreaks.

The Bulldogs finished their season at 3-8 but will be returning a large crop of starters as they only lose one senior, Brytton George. The Bulldogs will return a large crop of freshman that started this season, as well as an eighth grader and three juniors.
