DULUTH
– Win or lose, playing a larger Class AA team near the end of the season provides good experience going into the playoffs. That is what the CEC Lumberjacks got out of Tuesdays trip to Public Schools Stadium to take on Duluth East. Despite a great effort, in the end the Jacks fell by a score of 4-2.

The Greyhounds came out on the run and had a goal on the board early when Jon Cigalio scored in the 4th minute with the assist going to Michael Sorensen. Billy Renier quickly added another tally in the 10th minute to put Duluth East up 2-0.

Hard work paid off for the Jacks in the 25th minute when Sam Longseth with an assist from Austin Cossalter pulled CEC within a goal at 2-1.

Duluth East’s team speed was a problem for the Jacks throughout the game and it showed up when Connor Danielson turned the corner to the net and scored in the 55th minute. Renier added his second goal of the game at 71:43 into the contest and the Jacks found themselves in a 4-1 hole.

Landen Straub took a crossing pass from Derek Anderson and scored for CEC with 4-1/2 minutes remaining to cut the score to 4-2. Despite good pressure from the Jacks, the scoring was over for the night with East picking up the 4-2 win.

Sophomore Brock Anderson, filling in for Jarad Weeks made six quality saves for the Lumberjacks. Weeks will likely be out for the remainder of the season with a broken finger. Joe Bauer made 2 saves for east and Dan Spooner recorded 1 save while each let in one goal.

The loss drops the Lumberjacks to 6-7-1 overall, they will wrap up the regular season at home with a make-up game against Proctor on Thursday and Duluth Marshall next Tuesday.
