Barnum Rebounds With 43-0 shut-out of Mesabi East

BARNUM- Last week the Barnum Bombers saw their undefeated season fall at the hands of East Central in a very close game that Barnum had chances to win. This week’s task was to make sure that the Bombers get back on the winning track and that’s exactly what happened as the Bombers beat the Giants by a score of 43-0.

“Our kids were ready to go tonight” head coach Kevin Hayley told Northland Sports Online. “We needed a good game after losing one last week that we could have won.” Hayley added “we were much more disciplined tonight; we didn’t take any bad penalties.” Hayley also mentioned “it was nice to get our junior varsity in tonight, as they played almost the entire second half; so that well gives some of these kids some playing experience.”

Josh Hogan who ran for over 200 yards last week against East Central added another 175 yards rushing Friday and two touchdowns. Hogan had three touchdown runs; the first was a 44 yard run in the first quarter, and the second was a 55 yard run, also in the first quarter. A 9 yard touchdown in the second quarter was his third of the night.

Hector Chavez ran for 90 yards and two touchdowns, including the first of the game when he scored on a 37 yard run. Chavez’s second touchdown closed out the 1st half as he ran one in from 5 yards out. Andrew Youngren had a safety late in the second quarter and Wyatt Frinifrock scored on a 5 yard run in the second quarter to account for the entire Bomber scoring, as they led 43-0 at halftime, which is the way the game ended.

“It was a great win” Hayley stated after the game, “Losing that one last week was a tough game to swallow but we rebounded well and it was nice to see the kids ready to go from the start.” The win moves the Bombers to 4-1 overall on the season and the Bombers are in action again next Friday as they play at Ogilvie.
