McGregor was tabbed as an early season favorite to win the Great Northern Conference in 9-man football. On Friday night the Mercs took a big step in that direction by securing a 34-13 road victory against Cromwell.

A big key to the Mercs victory was Zerek Marsyla who passed for a pair of scores and ran for two more touchdowns. Marsyla opened the scoring in the first quarter by slipping in from the one-yard line giving McGregor a 6-0 lead. The Cards bounced back on a six-yard run by Dylan Mattson and a Spencer Wilenius extra point to make it 7-6, but that would be the last time the Cards would lead.

Before the first half ended the Mercs had picked up a Marsyla to Preston Hurd 56-yard touchdown pass and catch, a Marsyla two-yard run and an Alex Carlstrom 14-yard touchdown scamper as they built the lead to 28-7 at the half.

Cromwell cut the lead to 28-13 on a stellar 47-yard touchdown dash by Nick Berg in the fourth quarter, but the Mercs countered with a Marsyla touchdown pass of 36 yards to Hurd for the final score of the game.

The Mercs improved to 5-0 on the season and in the conference, while the Cards fell to 2-3 on the year.
