In what could very well be a preview of a 2010 Section 7A playoff game, the Esko-Carlton Eskomos hosted Chisago Lakes Area on Thursday evening. After playing to a 1-1 tie, the Wildcats scored twice in the second overtime to leave town with a 3-1 victory.

The Eskomos got on the board first when Caitlin Lilly scored in the 29th minute with Savannah Schramm picking up the assist. Lilly’s goal held up through the first half with Esko-Carlton taking the 1-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

With eight minutes elapsed in the second half Chisago Lakes tied things up at 1-1 on a Kelsey Ryan goal. The remaining minutes of regulation ticked away without either team able to score, sending the game to overtime.

The first overtime saw back and forth action with both teams having chances but unable to convert and the deadlock continued into the second overtime. With less than two minutes left in the second overtime Kara Herr was able to break down the defense, traveling down the middle of the field and scoring from 12 yards out. Less than a minute later, Annie Stenson jumped on a cleared ball and scored the second overtime goal off a 20 yard shot in the upper right corner of the net, giving Chisago Lakes the 3-1 double overtime victory.

The loss was Esko-Carlton’s first conference loss giving them a 6-1 record in conference and a 6-4-1 overall record. The Eskomos will travel to Hermantown on Saturday for an 11:00am matchup with the Hawks. Chisago Lakes are now 9-3-1 on the season; they will be in action on Saturday also, traveling to Two Harbors to take on the 3-10 Agates.
