The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls soccer team stayed undefeated in conference play on Thursday night with a 4-2 victory over Duluth Marshall in Cloquet.

CEC pounded 18-shots on goalie Emily Couture, while Jacks netminder Kenzie Rathe finished with just four saves on six shots.

Carri Zeadow got the Jacks on the board with a stunning goal off a corner kick in the 31st minute and just a minute later Zeadow found Emily Rikkola open for a goal making it 2-0.

The Hilltoppers showed their resiliency in the 39th minute on a goal by Emily Diener and the score was 2-1 at the break.

Marshall tied the game just 10 minutes into the second half when Anela Katoski pounded home a goal, but the Jacks rebounded with back-to-back goals by Emily Wangen in the 20th minute and then Morgan Jenson in the 23rd minute. Wangen’s goal was assisted by Carley Esse.

“This was a good game for us and we finally won in our white home jerseys,” said Cloquet coach Dustin Randall. “This was a needed win after a long tough couple of weeks. I think the girls can see the end of the season now and are hopefully coming together and starting to make plays and find focus for a playoff push.”

That tough couple of weeks Randall referred to included a tie on Thursday with Grand Rapids.

Although the visiting Lumberjacks outshot Grand Rapids 17-7 on the night, the scoreboard sat at 0-0 after regulation. A first overtime produced more of the same no score results. Cloquet thought they had the game won when with less than two minutes left in the second overtime Mikaela Dunaisky scored with an assist from Carley Esse. Any celebrating would have been premature however, because with just 1.5 seconds on the clock, Jackie Kellin scored on a miracle toe bash shot from about 35 yards out that went in the upper corner of the net. That score tied the game at on apiece sending the Lumberjacks back to Cloquet with a tie.
