BARNUM- After a slow start to this year’s volleyball season, the Bombers are rolling, winning seven of their last eight matches they have played. Thursday night it was a tough Polar League battle as the Bombers squared off against the Vikings of Cook County. A match the Bombers won in three straight games, all of which were very close battles.

Barnum and Cook County have had some tough battles over the past few seasons, including last year these two schools met twice. Barnum won in the Barnum invitational championship game, and then in Polar League play Barnum narrowly won 3-2 in Grand Marais last year. The Bombers won all three games Thursday winning by a combined twelve points in three games.

The scores of the three matches were 25-20, 25-20, and in the third game it was 25-23. All three games saw both teams playing very well and all three games could have gone either way, but in the end it was the Bombers prevailing and coming away with a huge conference win at home.

Senior Jessica Newman finished with 12 kills and 15 digs on the night, Jess was also 8-9 serving. Karianna Duesler 21 set assists; she also added 8 digs 3 ace serves and was 14-15 serving in the Bomber victory. Kelsey Wickstrom had 5 ace serves and she was 9-10 serving in the win. Allainie Hanek-Siltanen was a perfect 15-15 serving while adding 8 kills and 11 digs. Courtney Hunter also ended with 10 digs for Barnum.

Barnum improves to 8-5 on the season, and is playing their best volleyball of the season as they head into the Duluth East Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Duluth East High School is the site for the tournament. Other schools participating are Moose Lake-Willow River, Greenway, Grand Rapids, Chisago Lakes, Cambridge-Isanti, Anoka, Hill Murray, Forrest Lake, and the host Greyhounds. Action begins at 9:00 am
