The Floodwood Polar Bears reached the section 7A quarterfinals last season for the first time in over ten years. The Polar Bears had not made it past the first round of the playoffs since 2002, but Thursday night in Carlton the Polar Bears proved they are a section 7A contender as Floodwood beat Carlton 3-0 at Carlton High School.

Floodwood overcame the scrappy Bulldogs by scores of 25-17, 25-14, and 25-21 to complete the sweep on the road Thursday night. The win moves the Polar Bears into fourth place in Polar League Conference standings and also moves Floodwood into third place in the section 7A standings through Thursday night.

Alissa Autio led the Polar Bears Thursday night as she finished with 12 kills, 9 digs, and she also had 4 blocks in the win. Kim Larva ended with 24 set assists on the night; she was also perfect serving going 16-16 in the Polar Bear victory.

Molli Durovec added 8 kills for Floodwood to go along with 3 blocks. Molly Johnsen added 9 digs in the win, and Stacy Larva was the second Polar Bear to be perfect serving on the night as she finished 18-18 overall. Marita Yellowhammer had another nice night for Carlton with 5 kills and 3 ace serves for the Bulldogs in the loss.

Floodwood improves to 9-5 overall on the season and they are in action again next Tuesday night when they will host another Polar League opponent the Wrenshall Wrens. Carlton falls to 8-6 on the night and they will face Moose Lake-Willow River next Tuesday night at Moose Lake High School.
