Northland Sports Online volleyball recap for Thursday Sept 23.

Although rain cancelled most outdoor activities on Thursday evening, volleyball was in full swing with all 10 NSO area teams in action. The brooms were out in full force with all but one game being a 3-0 sweep. The one game that wasn’t a sweep was a dandy with the AlBrook Falcons claiming a 3-2 win over Orr.

AlBrook 3 Orr 2

The host Falcons picked up their seventh win against only one loss on the season with a thrilling 3-2 win over Orr. The Falcons won by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 16-25, 25-27 and 15-13. Kourtney Karppinen led AlBrook with 22 kills, 10 digs and 5 blocks. LaShae Brooks recorded 24 kills and 7 blocks for the Braves.

Ashland 3 Proctor 0

The Oredockers took three straight games from Proctor by scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-19 for the road victory.

Barnum 3 Silver Bay 0

A long trip up the North Shore paid off for the Bombers, sweeping the Mariners of Silver Bay 3-0 on Thursday night.

Carlton 3 Two Harbors 0

The perennial powers that are the Carlton Bulldogs moved to 5-1 on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Two Harbors in Carlton. After a tight 26-24 win in game one Carlton opened the match up with 25-15 and 25-13 wins. The Lady Bulldogs will travel 175 miles west to Bagley to compete in the Bagley Tourney on Saturday.

Cloquet 3 Marshall 0

Emily Fossen tallied 8 kills and 3 ace serves to lead the host Lumberjacks to a 3-0 victory over Duluth Marshall. Eighth grader Alex Oachs added 19 set assists. Cloquet is now 7-5 on the season.

Cook County 3 Wrenshall 0

The Vikings won in three straight to keep the visiting Wrens winless on the season.

Esko 3 ML-WR 0

Stephanie Bandelin recorded 13 kills to lead the home team Eskomos to a sweep of Moose Lake-Willow River. Esko remains perfect on the season with eleven straight wins. Sheenagh Caroline led the Rebels with 9 digs and 5 kills. The Eskomos next game is a huge Polar League match-up with rival Carlton on Tuesday.

Floodwood 3 Cromwell 0

Cromwell lost on the road in straight sets to the now 6-3 Polar Bears. The cards were led by Emily Hendrickson’s 6 kills and 2 ace serves.

Hermantown 3 Denfeld-Central 0

Stephanie Kallberg’s 10 kills and 26 set assists from Andrea Enockson got Hermantown into Thursday’s sweep action with a 3-0 win over Denfeld –Central. The Hawks have now won three straight and improve to 7-5 on the season.
