BARNUM- Barnum fans in attendance at Friday night’s game were treated to a very exciting yet trying football contest between two Great Polar Alliance Red teams in Barnum. The Bombers came away with a 16-6 conference win at home and now start the season 3-0 for the first time since 2006.

Barnum would take the first lead of the game when they marched down field on their opening possession. Hector Chavez made an outstanding run as he scored from 37 yards away on the touchdown run. Chavez added the two point conversion with a run into the end zone.

With The Bombers scoring so early in the first quarter and their defense shutting down the Chisholm Bluestreaks, the Bombers moved the ball consistently down the field on the Bluestreaks. The only problem seemed to come inside the 20 yard line as the Bombers ended the game 0-5 on fourth down conversions. Another time the Bombers fumbled on the Bluestreaks 6 yard line.

The first half ended with the Bombers leading 8-0. The Bombers defense shined in the first half holding Chisholm to only 66 total yards of offense in the first half. Chisholm gained most of the 66 yards in the last minute of the half as they were trying to drive down the field but Barnum stopped them as time expired in the first half.

The second half saw Chisholm get their only score of the game as they scored on their opening drive of the second half. The score came on a 40 yard touchdown pass from Adam Vake to Max Butler. The two point conversion attempt failed and Barnum led 8-6.

In the fourth quarter Josh Hogan scored from 6 yards out to give Barnum a 14-6 lead. The lead went to ten points when Hector Chavez ran in the two point conversion. Barnum’s strong defense continued to shut down Chisholm as the game ended with the Bombers winning at home. The win has Barnum tied atop the Great Polar Alliance Red Division with East Central, as both teams are 2-0 in conference play. East Central lost a non-conference game to start their season.

The Bombers finished the game with 302 yards rushing, with Hector Chavez leading the way with 153 of those rushing yards. Josh Hogan added 121 yards rushing as he was the work horse carrying the ball 25 times on the night. Again,
the #8 state ranked Bombers
go to 3-0 and they play at East Central on Friday. Chisholm falls to 1-2 and will play at Mesabi East next Friday as well.
