For the second time in three games the Cloquet football team suffered a heart-wrenching loss in a 12-7 road loss to Virginia.

In the opening week of the season the Jacks led most of the way against International Falls only to drop a tight game. After a second week home win the Lumberjacks hit the road on Friday only to suffer another dramatic loss at the hands of Virginia.

After a scoreless first quarter Cavan Stackpool gave the Blue Devils a 6-0 lead at 9:13 of the second quarter when he returned a Jacks punt 62-yards for a touchdown.

The Lumberjacks responded with a 21-yard touchdown run on the following drive to tie the game 6-6. Cloquet went ahead when Trent Moe booted the extra point to make 7-6 with 7:20 remaining in the first half.

Virginia got the final score of the game with 6:27 remaining in regulation when Troy Nichols crashed in from the four-yard line as the Blue Devils took a 12-7 lead, but for the second time in a row they left the door open by missing the extra point. Unfortunately the Lumberjacks were unable to make the two missed conversion chances hurt and the final scored stayed 12-7.

Cloquet rushed for 180 yards in the game while the Blue Devils rushed for 134. Virginia passed for 93 yards compared to just 13 for Cloquet. In the end the Blue Devils finished with 227 yards of total offense and the Jacks with 193 yards of offense.

Cloquet was led by Stefan Pease who rushed for 82 yards on 17 carries, while both Cole Johnson and Joey Singpiel finished with 47-yards rushing.
