The Cloquet girls’ softball team improved its record to 5-0 on Monday night with a 12-0 road win over Eveleth-Gilbert as pitcher Chandler Beaupre tossed a 3-hit shutout in helping her team to the win.

The Lumberjacks struck for a pair of runs in the first inning and then proceeded to put the game away with a strong fifth inning.  The Lumberjacks smashed out 15 hits despite windy conditions.  Cloquet also played a flawless game in the field and did not commit an error behind Beaupre who fanned four and walked two Golden Bear batters.

Breanne Baker pounded out three hits, while Beaupre, Makayla Langenbrunner, Jade Benko, Sammy Zeadow, and Katrina Smith all added two hits each.

Cloquet also went 3-0 to win a tournament in Pine City on Saturday.  Playing on a field with standing water in the outfield the Jacks throttled Pine City 7-1, then edged Proctor 11-7 before topping off the day with a 12-0 win over Silver Bay in the championship game.

Cloquet is scheduled to play in Ashland on Tuesday, while the Golden Bears who fall to 0-2 on the season will face the Hermantown Hawks on Wednesday afternoon in Hermantown.
