Cloquet Wins Pine City Tournament

The Cloquet Lumberjacks traveled to Pine City to participate in their tournament. The Lumberjacks would come out with some hardware are they would get past the Dragons of Pine City in their first game 7-1, win a close matchup with the Proctor Rails 11-7, and win the championship against the Silver Bay Mariners 11-0 in 5 innings.

Against Pine City, Kaylee McMillen would be the winning pitcher. McMillen pitched all 7 innings allowing 3 hits, striking out 8 and walking 4. The offense was led by Makayla Langenbrunner who went 2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBIs. Kassidy Steen went 3 for 4 with a double and Sammy Zeadow went 2 for 4 in the win.

Against the Proctor Rails, the Lumberjacks put Chandler Beaupre on the mound to get the victory. Beaupre went 7 innings, allowed 9 hits and walked 5 while striking out 3. Jade Benko led the offensive way in the victory, going 3 for 4 including a 2 run homer. Langenbrunner had another nice game at the plate going 3 for 3 and scoring 3 runs, Beaupre went 2 for 3 and scored 3 times, and Abbey Wangen went 2 for 5 and got past home 4 times in the win.

In the Championship game, Cloquet sent Beaupre back to the mound. Beaupre got her second win of the day, going 5 innings, striking out 6, walking 2, and only allowing 3 hits. For the offense, Zeadow went 3 for 3 and scored twice, Langenbrunner kept her hot bat rolling, going 2 for 3 with a double and scoring 3 times. Steen had another nice game going 2 for 4 and scoring twice, and Devan Massessa went 2 for 3 including a double and had a stolen base in the victory.

Cloquet is now 4-0 on the year and is scheduled to play in Eveleth-Gilber on April 28th if they weather holds up.
