Despite the recent weather, the Carlton Bulldogs and Wrenshall Wrens managed to get their Polar League matchup in on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs would take care of the Wrens 9-4 and notch their first win of the season.

Freshman Evan Gray would get the win for the Bulldogs, pitching 4 innings, striking out 7 batters and allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Dominic Bennett came in relief and pitched 3 innings, allowed 3 runs, and also struck out 7 hitters. Bennett also led the offensive way, going 3 for 3 including a double and a triple, driving in 1 run and scoring 3 times. Nate Nilsen went 3 for 4, drove in 2 runs, stole 2 bases and scored twice. Also having a nice effort is Carlton’s lone senior, Brytton George, who went 2-3 and drove in 2 runs.

Jared Kittel took the loss for the Wrens, pitching 4 innings, giving up 7 runs on 5 hits, striking out 3 and walking 3. The Wrenshall offense was powered by Kittel who went 1 for 3 and Austin Ferguson who went 1 for 4 and had Wrenshall’s only RBI of the game.

The Bulldogs improve to 1-2 on the young season and will travel to Nashwauk on Saturday to play a double header against Nashwauk and Deer River. The Wrens drop to 0-1 on the season and will play the Barnum Bombers on Tuesday, May 6th.
