Jacks top Hibbing in Season Opener

George Bailey – NSO

The Cloquet girls softball team finally hit the field on Tuesday in Hibbing with a convincing 12-0 victory over the Hibbing Blue Jackets.  After traveling to Rosemount, Minnesota about a month ago to play three scrimmages, the Jacks finally got their taste of a real game on real dirt on Tuesday afternoon.

The game against Hibbing was a scheduled home game for Cloquet, but Braun Park was not ready for play so the game was moved to Hibbing and the Jacks did not disappoint.  Cloquet pushed across a couple of early runs in the first two innings before exploding for eight runs in the third enroute to the five-inning affair.

Katrina Smith, Breanne Baker, Sammy Zeado and Kassidy Steen all had two or more hits in the game and Chandle Beaupre was outstanding on the mound by tossing a 2-hit shutout win.

The Jacks are scheduled to play a triple header in Pine City on Saturday.
