Cherry shuts out Rebels

The Cherry Tigers remained unbeaten Friday afternoon as the Tigers shut out the Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels by a score of 10-0 in six innings at Willow River handing the Rebels their first loss of the young season.

Kacey Herring struck out 14 Rebel batters and allowed only six outs as the Tigers picked up their sixth win of the season. Herring stuck out at least two batters in each of the six innings she pitched and twice struck out three batters in the contest.

Herring also helped her own cause as she finished with two hits on the afternoon and drove in one run. Amber Anderson and Ryanna Peterson also chipped in with two hits for the Tigers, and Abby Mayry hit a two run home run in the top of the sixth inning to seal the Tigers win.

The Rebels Alyssa Wright finished with two hits on the afternoon for the Rebels, and Ally Bode, Nikki Grutkowski, Morgan Prachar, and Jessica Paul added the other Rebels hits.

Bode finished with 8 strikeouts in the loss for the Rebels, as the Rebels would end up stranding two or more runners in four of the six innings they played, unable to pick up the big hit when needed.

Cherry improves to 6-0 on the season and they are back in action again Monday afternoon when they will face Chisholm at McDavitt Park in Forbes Minnesota.

The Rebels fall to 2-1 on the season and they are also back in action on Monday when they will host Rush City in Willow River in a sectional match-up.
