The Hermantown Hawks continued their domination in boys soccer on Thursday with a 2-1 victory over the Cloquet Lumberjacks. It took a second half goal by Connor Kanuit to give his team the win, but the Hawks continue to show they are among the cream of the local soccer crop.

Hunter Leon gave the Jacks hope at 9:46 into the contest when he notched a goal with an assist to John Scheuer making it 1-0 for Cloquet. That lead was short lived when Kanuit tied the game at 10:47 with the first of his two goals.

Isak Abukhodair assisted on Kanuit’s second goal of the game, and the only goal of the second half, to give the Hawks a hard-fought victory.

Jarad Weeks made 3 saves on 5 shots for the Jacks, while Hawk netminder Aaron Luhm made 5 saves on 6 shots.

The Hawks record now stands at 3-2-1 on the year. Hermantown will get their first look at a combined Denfeld/Central squad when they play host at 11:00am on Saturday. With the loss, the Jacks fall to 1-3-1 on the early season. Cloquet will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Chisago Lakes. The game is a rematch of last season’s quarterfinal playoff game which the Jacks lost 6-5 in a shootout.
