CLOQUET – Emily Fossen dominated the net for the Cloquet volleyball team last night and the Jacks dominated the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears 25-5, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-16 in rolling to a 3-1 home win last night.

Cloquet started strong in the first game of the match and had stellar net play from Maddie Kiehn and Abbi Parenteau in pounding out an easy first game win. However, the hibernating Golden Bears slowly began to show signs of awakening in game two as they managed to take most of Cloquet’s dominating net play away towards the end of game two and most all of game three.

Fossen began to flex her muscle in game three and especially in game four when the Jacks needed a go-to person. For the game Fossen finished with 14-kills. Alex Oakes, just an 8th grader, ran the offense proficiently as she collected 23 set assists. When Oakes left the game another 8th grader, Sami Westendorf, was able to keep the offense in sync.

Other strong performances came from steady libero Kierra Johnson who finished with 23 digs and 3 ace serves as well as Kiehn who was strong early with 6 ace serves, 9 digs and 12 kills.

With the win the Jacks are 2-2 on the season, with their losses coming against class AAA programs Duluth East and Grand Rapids. Cloquet will be on the road on Sat to participate in the Coon Rapids Invitational.

Christy Peterson led the Golden Bears with 11 digs and 6 kills.
