Rebel Golfers Playing Well Early In The Season

The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels golf team is in mid-season form as they are outside competing and playing well early in the season. Their golf season kicked off on April 20th at the Sandstone Golf Club.

The East Central Eagles were their first opponent this spring. East Central defeated the Rebel boys golf team 169 to 210. Jacob Indihar shot the Rebels best round with a 49. Conner Tollefson shot 53, Nick Dougherty and Stephen Gassert each shot 54 in the Rebels loss. The Lady Rebels were credited with a conference win, as East Central was unable to field a minimum team of four players. The low scorer was Jody Staebler with 55, followed by Keely Hansen
with 56, and Sam Schaumburg 62.

The Polar League meet was played on April 22nd at the Moose Lake Golf Club. Both the boys and girls teams enjoyed a good day for scoring. Jacob Indihar was the medalist for the boys, shooting a career best of 72 for 18 holes. Leading the Rebel girls was Jody Staebler, firing a 55 for nine holes. Team scores read as follows:
Esko/Carlton 325 finishing first, ML-WR shot 349 to finish second, Cook County was third as they shot 351, and Two Harbors finished fourth with a 359. Esko/Carlton won the girls meet as they shot 211 and the Rebels finished second with a 242.

Braham was the Rebels’ opponent on April 24th, squaring off in a dual meet. The Braham boys edged the Rebels by only one stroke. Braham shot 181, and the Rebels shot a score of 182. The girls’ side of the meet finished in a tie with both teams shooting 237.

Nick Dougherty led the Rebels, shooting a 43. Conner Tollefson and Jake Indihar both shot 46. Kalya Larson led the girls with a 56 and
Jody Staebler backed her up with a 57.

The next golf meet was April 28th at Moose Lake as the Rebels went head to head against Hinckley-Finlayson. The boys tied at 166. Stephen Gassert had a career best of 37 for the nine hole meet. Nick Dougherty shot 42, Jake Indihar 43, and Cameron Weisert a 44. The girls were credited with a conference win because the Jaguars did not have a full team. Kayla Larson shot the low score of 55, Jody Staebler had a 56, Samantha Schaumburg 59, and Keely Hansen finished with a 61.
