Grizzlies End Mercuries Season

The North Woods Grizzlies would take on the McGregor Mercuries in an Section 7A semifinals matchup at UM-Duluth on Wednesday evening. The Grizzlies would topple the Mercuries 74-54 to advance to the Section 7A finals.

The Mercuries held the 37-34 lead at the half but wouldn’t be able to hold on as the Grizzlies went on a 40-17 scoring outburst in the second half to propel themselves to the victory.

The Mercuries were led by Amy Gelhar who had a team high 15 points. Kendra Mickelson followed with 13 points, Korinna Mickelson added 9, Danelle Demenge pitched in 8, Abby Hawkinson notched 5, and Stacia Staska topped it off with 4.

Darby Youngstrom would lead the Grizzlies to the win with 20 points. Alicia Rutchasky followed with 17 points, Destinie Villebrun scored 13, and Zoe Bystrom also hit double digits with 10.

The Mercuries end their season with a 23-5 record. The Grizzlies improve to 25-2 and will take on the MIB Rangers (27-2) on March 14th at UM-Duluth in the Section 7A finals. The game will tipoff at 7:00 PM.
