Hawks Fall in Championship Game

The Hermantown Hawks advanced to their 5th consecutive Class A championship, but this time around they would take on the top seeded East Grand Forks Green Waves. The Hawks would also drop their 5th consecutive championship game, falling to the Green Waves 7-3.

The Hawks would hold the advantage 1-0 going into the second period, but the Green Waves would have a scoring frenzy in the second period, notching 5 goals to give them the commanding 5-1 lead going into the final intermission. Hermantown would try to battle back in the 3rd period but wouldn’t be able to accomplish as both teams would notch 2 goals to make it a 7-3 final.

Scoring in the Championship game for the Hawks was Scott Wasbotten on a goal that gave them the early lead. Nate Pionk assisted that goal. Josh Lenard would assist Parker Hawk early in the 3rd period to notch Hermantowns second goal on the afternoon. The final goal would come from Jared Zeleznikar late in the 3rd period. Jack LeBlanc and Sam Gibson would assist that goal for the Hawks.

The Hawks would end their season as the Class A runners up with a 24-5-2 record. The East Grand Forks Green Waves ended their season with a 28-2-1 record.
