Scholastica Sweeps Baseball Doubleheader

FT. PIERCE, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team swept Keystone College (Pa.) in its first games in Fort Pierce, winning game one 8-4 and rallying to take game two in extra innings 6-5 (F/9).

Game 1: CSS 8, Keystone 4
Game one saw the Saints score three runs in the top of the first and three more runs in the top of the third on its way to victory.

Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) drove in two runs in the first with a single and Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) had another RBI single in the inning.

After the Giants plated two runs in the bottom of the second, CSS added three more in the third to make it 6-2. Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) and Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) came around to score on a Keystone error and Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) doubled in Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) in the inning.

The Saints answered anther Keystone run in the top of the fourth as Henderson and Bernsdorf had RBIs in the inning. The Giants added a run late to make the final score 8-4.

Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) improved to 2-0 this season after striking out seven in six innings. Risse and Henderson had a pair of hits and each scored three times in the victory.

Game 2: CSS 6, Keystone 5 (F/9)
Keystone scored all five of its runs in the top of the fifth and the Saints rallied by scoring three in the bottom frame and then one each in the fourth and fifth innings to force extras. Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) then won the game in the bottom of the ninth with a bases loaded single to make the final 6-5.

Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) had a two-run single in the second and Getchell had a sacrifice fly. Getchell later doubled in Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4. Mike Policano (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS ) had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the game at 5-5.

Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) entered the game with two outs in the sixth and kept the Giants in check for 3.1 innings. In the bottom of the ninth, CSS loaded the bases with no outs. Duex stepped into the box and ripped a shot past the first baseman to drive in Getchell for the winning run to make the final 6-5.

The Saints (3-3) will face the Giants (2-6) again tomorrow at 12 p.m. Eastern time in one, nine-inning game. Listen to the action live on Saints Sports Net.
