McGregor Ends South Ridges Season

The top seeded McGregor Mercuries matched up with the 4th seeded South Ridge Panthers at UM-Duluth yesterday evening in a Section 7A quarterfinals matchup. The game would see the Mercuries dominate from the tip, winning the game 76-42 to advance to the semifinals.

The Mercuries held a large 43-20 lead at the half and never looked back as they would continue to outscore the Panthers 33-22 in the second half to secure their spot in the semifinals.

The Mercuries were led by Abby Hawkinson and Amy Gelhar. Hawkinson would notched a game high 23 points, while Gelhar would be just behind her with 22 on the night. Danelle Demenge also put forth a nice effort with 16 points. Korinna Mickelson followed with 6, Kendra Mickelson tallied 5, and Gretchen Grams topped the win off with 4.

In the loss for the Panthers, Krystal Karppinen and Mikayla Olesiak both notched 10 points, followed by Justice Janke with 9, Lindsey Janke with 6, Mallow Thibault tallying 4, and Gracie Otis topping it off with 1.

The Panthers end their season with a 14-13 record. The Mercuries improve to 23-4 on the year and will play the No. 2 seeded North Woods Grizzlies (24-2) on Wednesday, March 12th. The game will be played at UM-Duluth with a 7:30 tipoff.
