Cromwell Edges Out Floodwood

The Floodwood Polar Bears and Cromwell Cardinals played a Section 7A quarterfinals game on Saturday afternoon at UM-Duluth’s Romano gym. The Cardinals would edge out the Polar Bears in the hard fought game, 64-55.

The Polar Bears held the slight 28-27 advantage at the half, but the Cardinals would outscore the Polar Bears 37-27 in the second half to ensure the victory on the afternoon.

The Cardinals were led by Chelsea Swatek who had a game high 23 points which included notching 5 threes. Kiiera Anderson tallied 9 points, Rachel Hutar added 8, Bailey Gronner scored 7, Teanna Hakamaki pitched in 6, Kelly Susa and Allie Cahoon both added 4, and Andrea Hakamaki topped the afternoon off with 3.

Megan Aho led the Polar Bears with 17 points in the loss. Sara Scharnberg followed with 14 points, Stacey Larva pitched in 11, Mikayla Koivisto added 9, and Sydney Lough rounded it out with 4 points in the game.

The Polar Bears season ends with a 15-12 record. The Cardinals improve their record to 16-9 and will advance to the 7A section semifinals game where they will play the #3 team in the state, the Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers (26-2). The game will be held at UM-Duluth on March 12th with a 5:45 PM tipoff.
