After receiving numerous awards during the playing season, Megan Johnson a sophomore on the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College softball team, was named Academic All-American for the National Junior College Athletic Association this past week.

Johnson, who was a team captain for the Thunder this past season, was named to the All-North 1st Team in the MCAC, All-State Honorable Mention in the MCAC, and she topped off her playing awards as a 1st Team All-Region XIII Player last month.

“Megan had an amazing second season for us,” commented Kerry Rodd the head coach of the Thunder. “There was only a handful of Academic All-Americans this year and to have Megan become our first in school history means a lot.”

Amazingly the small town of Esko has produced the top two players in Thunder history in Johnson and the teams only 1st Team All-American from a playing perspective in Stacie Miller.

“That says a lot about the program Brad Emanuel is running over there,” stated Rodd. “They have good kids, parents and people who care and it shows when they get to the collegiate level as well.”

In order to become an Academic All-American athletes had to have been named to the 1st Team in their respective regions as well as have a high GPA of above 3.70. Johnson qualified with both and was only a handful of players nationwide to receive the honor.

“We are so proud of Megan and her academic achievements,” Rodd said. “This is a first for our school and I hope our other players strive to reach that level.”
