Wilderness Split with Brookings

The Minnesota Wilderness earned a spilt in their weekend series with Brookings this weekend at Northwoods Credit Union Arena. The Blizzard won 3-2 in overtime Friday and Saturday the Wilderness bounced back with a 5-0 shutout victory.

Friday night the Wilderness started fast scoring two goals 16 seconds apart in the first period which put the Wilderness in front 2-0. Jaycob McCombs scored the first goal with assists to Richard Buri and Johno May. May then set up the second goal of the game, as Darian Romanko scored for the Wilderness.

The Blizzard responded scoring a goal in the first period and one midway through the third period to tie the game at 2-2 and in overtime the Blizzard won when Eric Hesse scored to give the Blizzard to 3-2 win.

Saturday marked the return of Wilderness goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo who earned the shutout win in his first game in over 8 weeks. Kaskisuo stopped 29 shots in the Wilderness victory.

Nolan Culver notched two goals in the win Saturday as the Wilderness improves to 30-13-8 on the season. Romanko, Buri, and Michael Covach scored the other Wilderness goals Saturday night.

The Wilderness will be in Bismarck next weekend before returning home to face Coulee Region in a three game series beginning Thursday March 13th thru Saturday the 15th.
