Former Cloquet student Nick Lind, a freshman at St. Scholastica, has been having a good freshman start to his college tennis career. Lind is one of six freshmen Saints on a very young team.

Scholastica’s head coach Rockwell Patten, otherwise known as Wells Patten, told Northland Sports Online, “Nick is the hardest working player on the team…whenever we have a drill or run or anything, Nick is going to go all out and give it his all.”

Lind did not start out playing tennis at an early age like a lot of college players do, but
he has “come such a long way this season,” Coach Patten mentioned. Lind did not see a lot of playing time early in the season. The Saints were searching for their identity and focusing on the conference play which started in the end of March.

Lind played both singles and doubles this season for the Saints, finishing with a
singles record
of 5-0 overall. Nick won singles matches over Ben Cline of North Central University, Kevin Daly of Martin Luther College, Ryan Obry, and he finished the season with wins over Dan Rick of Martin Luther, and Larry Bienz of North Central University.

Lind played in three doubles matches this season where his record finished 2-1. He had three different playing partners in doubles. Lind and Tom Scheneuer won in a match against Minnesota Morris and he won with Brian Lindberg over North Central University. His only blemish was a doubles match against Martin Luther College.
He and Andrew Humiston fell in a tight, hard fought match.

St. Scholastica is playing in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC)
tournament this weekend at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Club. Lind is not participating in the UMAC tournament this weekend, however. Coach Patten only sees promise for his freshman tennis player. Lind is a 2008 Cloquet High School graduate
.
