Duluth Marshall Breezes By St. Cloud Cathedral

In the final game of the season the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers took on the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders. The Hilltoppers would win the game by a 5-1 score to end their regular season on a high note.

Duluth Marshall would strike first when Jon Hansen and Lane Eliason assisted a Luke Pavelich goal 10 minutes into the game to give the Hilltoppers the early 1-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers would increase that lead just 30 seconds into the second period when John McKenna hit the back of the net on a goal assisted again by Eliason and Kyle McKinzie. Duluth Marshall wouldn’t stop there as they would increase their lead to 3-0 when Pavelich notched his second goal on the night assisted by Nate Johnson.

The Hilltoppers continued to get shots off and increased the lead to 4-0 when Luke Dow scored at the 10:30 mark. Dow’s goal was assisted by Peter Lenz and Jack Dodd. The Crusaders would cut into the lead with Erik Gadbois scoring to make the score 4-1, but Dow would strike back for his second goal of the game that sealed the final score at 5-1.

St. Cloud Cathedral goalies Zach Fritz and Carmen Dehler blocked 28 and 6 shots respectively in the loss. Duluth Marshall’s Alex Murray blocked 17 shots in the win.

Duluth Marshall ended their regular season with a 16-9 record and will play their next game in the Section 7A playoffs against an opponent TBD. The Crusaders dropped to 17-7-1 on the year.
