Polar Bears Squeeze By Panthers

The Floodwood Polar Bears hosted the South Ridge Panthers in a girls basketball match-up on Thursday night. The Polar Bears found themselves on the winning side with the close 53-44 victory.

The Polar Bears held the advantage at the half, 24-21, but would turn it up a notch in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 29-23 to secure the win.

The Polar Bears were lead by Megan Aho who notched a team high 13 points and Stacey Larva and Sydney Lough who each scored 11 in the win. Also scoring was Mikayla Koivisto with 7, Sara Scharnberg adding 4, Marissa Johnson pitching in 3, Emily Hall scoring 2, and Alyssa White topping it off with 1.

The Panthers were lead by Mikayla Olesiak who tallied a game high 14 points. Lindsey Janke and Krystal Karppinen each scored 8 and Mallory Thibault and Justice Janke closed the scoring off with 7 a piece.

The Polar Bears improve to 11-9 on the season and will travel to Silver Bay to play the Mariners (0-19) on February 14th. The Panthers fall to 11-9 on the year and will look to bounce back against the MLWR Lady Rebels (15-5) on February 17th.
