Carlton Opens 7A Playoffs With A Win

The Carlton Bulldogs opened the Section 7A playoffs with a huge 22-3 win over Cook County Tuesday afternoon at Chub Lake Park in Carlton. The Bulldogs opening round win moves them into quarterfinal action Thursday afternoon in Cloquet.


Megan Bodin was the winning pitcher Tuesday, giving up only two hits during her five innings of work. Bodin also struck out two Vikings, while giving up only one walk in the Bulldog win.


Offensively, Carlton was led by Megan Nelson who was 2-for-3 on the afternoon with a double and two runs scored. Alanna Groth had two hits, including a double and 2 RBIs. McKinzie Belanger added two hits, while Clarissa Nelson also finished with two hits and 2 RBIs.


Amanda Eggert added two hits and 2 RBIs in the Bulldog win. Brooke Camps had a triple with 3 RBIs, and rounding out the Bulldogs offensive barrage was Christy Eggert who had a double and 3 RBIs.


The win improves the Bulldogs to 10-7 overall on the season. Cook County ends its season with a record of 3-12. The Bulldogs will face Nashwauk-Keewatin at Braun Park in Cloquet Thursday afternoon in the section quarterfinals. The winner will advance to the section semi-finals in the double elimination tournament beginning next Tuesday in Grand Rapids.
