CLOQUET- Upon entering the sectional playoffs with the number one seed in sub-section one, Cloquet proved just how deserving they were of their seed. The Jacks hammered out twelve hits in their 14-0 victory over the Rangers.

It was a huge twelve-run second inning that closed the door on any hopes Crosby-Ironton may have had as the Lumberjacks rolled to the fourteen run win.

Cloquet grabbed a two run lead after one inning. Kelly Carlson walked with one out, stole second base, and then she scored on a two-out double from Lizz Jezierski. Jezierski scored when Shania Paulson hit the second double of the inning and Cloquet took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The second inning was all Cloquet as the Lumberjacks scored ten runs before making their first out of the inning. The second inning started as Carley Esse walked and then stole second base. Hunter Nemmers then singled, allowing Esse to move to third. Esse then scored on a pass ball to make it 3-0 Cloquet.

Katie Schulz singled, and that was followed by a double from Dalyce Gustafson, which drove in Nemmers. Kelly Carlson then walked for the second time, Schulz scored on the second passed ball of the inning and Cloquet led at that point 5-0. Courtney Esse tripled to bring in two more runs and the Jacks led 8-0. Lizz Jezierski then hit her second extra base hit of the game to bring in Esse and Cloquet led 9-0.

Shania Paulson hit her second double to score Jezierski. Kayla Masessa walked, which was followed by a bases clearing triple from Carley Esse to make the score 11-0. Nemmers then walked, and Esse would score on a fielder’s choice from Katie Schulz. Alyssa Michaelson walked, which was followed by an infield single from Denise Rodd, and the Jacks led 13-0. The Lumberjacks last run of the inning came when Rodd scored following an error on a ball hit by Paulson.

Hayley Sobczak was the winning pitcher for Cloquet. She allowed only three hits, all of which came from the bat of Crosby-Ironton’s Chelsey BonSante. Sobczak struck out four, while only walking two Rangers. Cloquet improves to 12-7 on the season and face Duluth Denfeld in the Section 7AA quarterfinals at Cohasset. The game can be heard on AM 1230 WKLK beginning at 5 pm.
