Since bursting on the scene as a freshman, Megan Mullen of Hermantown has continued to show why she is one of the most dominant softball players in the Northland. On Tuesday night, Mullen took her game to another level by pitching a 15-strike out perfect game in leading Hermantown to a 5-0 Section 7AA playoff win over International Falls.

The win advances the Hawks to the quarterfinals of the Section 7AA tournament and gives them a nine game winning streak upon entering the second round of the playoffs.

Mullen helped her own cause with two hits in the Hermantown win. She also added two runs batted in. Mullen finished with fifteen strikeouts, while facing the minimum twenty-one batters.

Steph Thun added to the Hawks win offensively with three hits, including a triple and two singles. Celine Francisco added a triple for Hermantown as well. The Broncos advanced earlier in the day by defeating Duluth Marshall by a score of 5-2.

The win moves Hermantown to the quarterfinals where they will face Proctor, who advanced by defeating Hinckley-Finlayson 4-2. That game will be played at Cohasset Thursday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The winner moves into the double elimination tournament scheduled to start next Tuesday in Cloquet.

Hermantown improves to 18-3 on the season and the International Falls Broncos finish their season with an overall record of 8-10. Hermantown’s games Thursday can be heard on 96.5 FM Legends Rock.
