WILLOW RIVER- The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels girls softball team won their third straight game Monday afternoon when they took the Rush City Tigers by a score of 10-0 in six innings.

Katie Youngberg had another outstanding performance on the mound for the Rebels in picking up the win on Monday. Youngberg scattered only two hits over six innings, while she struck out 10 Tiger batters and walked only two. The win moves Youngberg’s pitching record to 4-2 on the season.

“Katie had fine control out there today,” head coach Andrew Miller told Northland Sports Online. “When Katie’s on it makes us a better team and we know we can focus on what we need to do to win.” Miller continued, “Three wins in a row is nice but we only want to get better. We want to make ours a strong program and go places this team hasn’t been in years.”

The Rebels only managed five hits on the afternoon, but were aided by nine walks given up by the Tigers starting pitching. In addition to the nine walks, the Rebels were aided by seven stolen bases, nine wild pitches, and nine pass balls. That combination led to four runs in the first inning, three runs in third inning, a two in the fifth, and one run in the sixth.

Offensively, Moose Lake-Willow River’s Molly Wasche went 2-2 with a run batted in. Wasche also scored two runs. Andrea Youngberg had two RBIs and scored two runs. Katie Youngberg and Maddy Adamczak added the other Rebels hits.

Moose Lake-Willow River improves to 4-2 on the season and hosts Carlton on Tuesday afternoon in Willow River. The Tigers fall to 0-8 overall on the season and face Hinckley-Finlayson at home Tuesday afternoon.
