Barnum Girls Still Perfect On The Season

BARNUM- The lady Bombers softball team remained perfect Friday afternoon when they shut out the Carlton Bulldogs in the Polar League battle. The Bombers, looking to improve after falling in the Section 5A championship games the past two seasons, are seeking a trip to the state softball tournament.


The Bombers shut out the Carlton Bulldogs 10-0 in five innings Friday to pick up their eighth straight win. Barnum is attempting to start the season like the last when they won their first eleven games of the year.


The Bombers got on the scoreboard first when they blew to a 5-0 first inning lead to take all the wind out of the Bulldogs sail. They won this one easily by ten runs.


Katrina Newman was the winning pitcher Friday. Newman pitched five innings, allowed only two hits and had six strikeouts in the Bomber victory at home. Katrina Newman also helped out offensively with two hits and four runs batted in.


Jessica Newman led the Bombers thirteen hit attack Friday, going 3-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Claire Rodgers, Alyssa Tate, and Allainie Hanek-Siltanen all added two hits apiece in the Bomber win. They all also scored two runs each for the Bombers in the win.


Barnum improves to 8-0 overall on the season and will play at Cherry on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs now fall to 5-2 and will be back in action again on Tuesday when they take on Moose Lake-Willow River at Willow River Tuesday afternoon.
