NSO area baseball and softball recap for Thursday, April 22.

Baseball

ML-WR 37 Cromwell 0

Rejean Carlson had 4 hits, including a two run home run, and drove in 6 runs to aid the Rebels in the win against Cromwell Thursday afternoon. Hayden Hoffman and Trevor Nummela combined for a 5 inning no-hitter.

Cloquet 7 Greenway 5

The Lumberjacks used a big five-run fifth inning to come from behind and beat the Greenway Raiders in Coleraine on Thursday afternoon. Adam Hanson was the winning pitcher for the Lumberjacks, who improve to 3-0 on the season.

Floodwood 13 Esko 5

The Floodwood Polar Bears picked up a big Polar league win on Thursday when they beat the Eskomos in Esko. The loss for Esko is the second straight after starting the season 4-0. Floodwood improves to 4-3 overall.

Softball

ML-WR 15 Cromwell 2

Katie Youngberg threw her second straight one hitter as the Rebels beat the hosting Cromwell Cardinals Thursday afternoon. Emily Wasche, Kim Ergen, and Maddy Adamczak each had three hits in the Rebels victory.

Barnum 22 Cook County 1

In a Polar League match up that took place in Two Harbors Thursday, the Barnum Bombers remained perfect on the season with a 22-1 win over the Cook County Vikings. Jessica Newman had three hits for the Bombers.

Hermantown 19 Eveleth-Gilbert 0

Hermantown’s Megan Mullen hit a grand slam home run and finished with five runs batted in in the non-conference win over the Golden Bears. Mullen and Katie Thun combined on the five inning no hitter.

Cherry 8 AlBrook 6

The Cherry Tigers used a five-run fifth inning to knock off the Falcons by two runs at Braun Park in Cloquet. Kirstin Lahti had four runs batted in for Cherry in their win Thursday afternoon in Cloquet.

Cloquet 2 Duluth Central 0

The Lumberjacks scored one run in the fourth inning and one in the fifth ain shutting out the Trojans by two runs at Duluth Central. Rachel Smith scattered 7 hits and added seven strikeouts.

Esko 9 Floodwood 3

The Esko Eskomos rebounded Thursday afternoon by defeating Floodwood by six runs at Esko. The Eskomos had lost their last two games, but are back on the winning track. Esko moves to 2-3 with the win.
