The Cloquet boys baseball team split its last two games to move to 3-1 overall on the season. The Lumberjacks defeated the Greenway Raiders last week in a comeback to keep Cloquet perfect on the season.

Cloquet took a 1-0 lead when Jake Horn delivered a 2-out run, scoring single in the second inning to bring in Adam Hanson. In the third, Adam Hanson drew a bases loaded walk to make it 2-0. Adam Mendoza delivered a 3-run home run in the bottom of the third and Greenway added an unearned run to take a 4-2 lead after three innings.

After a scoreless fourth, Adam Hanson had an RBI single to score Tyler Tollerud.
Connor Stowell followed with an RBI single to tie the game. Jake Horn delivered a 2-run single and Peter LaCourse had an RBI single to give Cloquet a 7-4 lead in the top half of the fifth inning. Greenway countered with a run in their half of the inning for the final score of 7-5. Adam Hanson picked up the win for Cloquet in relief of Jake Horn.

The Lumberjacks were scheduled to play in the Princeton Invitational on Friday and Saturday, but due to heavy rains Saturday’s scheduled games were rained out. The Lumberjacks played Friday in the first round of the tournament, however. The hosting Princeton Tigers downed the Lumberjacks 5-0 and handed Cloquet their first loss of the season.

Cloquet matched Princeton hit for hit Friday, but five unearned runs that were scored by Princeton was the big difference in the game. Corbin Morse and Connor Stowell each had two hits in the Cloquet loss. Thomas Rodgers gave up nine hits and struck out five in the loss.

The Saturday games have been rescheduled for May 15th. The Lumberjacks will face St. Francis and New Ulm.
