Northern Stars Fall in O.T.

Kerry Rodd-NSO

A goal 2:47 into the second overtime by Madi Nolan gave Forest Lake a 3-2 double overtime victory over the Duluth Northern Stars in the Section 7AA girls hockey tournament.
The goal by Nolan puts the Rangers into the semi finals against Andover on Saturday in Andover.
Alexa Bremer gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead just fifteen seconds into the opening period when she converted on a pretty passing play by Kaitlyn VanTassel and Maddi Kolbow.  Calie Kunst was able to tie the game for the Northern Stars on a power play with an assist to Brionna Stafne at 6:42 of the first period and that’s how things stood after the opening stanza.
Kayla Brust put the Rangers up 2-1 at 6:23 of the second period, but again Duluth responded this time at 13:05 on a goal by Monanna Viitalaon an assist by Christine Enright.
There was no scoring in the third period and no scoring in the second period, but at 2:47 of the second extra session it was Nolan scoring the game winner to put the 10-14-2 Rangers into the semi final round.
The Northern Stars, who put 35 shots on Ranger goalie Kaylee Remington, finish the season at 11-14-1.
