CROMWELL- The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels came to Cromwell Thursday afternoon on a mission. They wanted to continue to be productive offensively and get some pitching work off of Hayden Hoffman and Trevor Nummela. This would be Nummela’s first varsity action on the mound. The Rebels got exactly what they were hoping for, pounding out 32 hits in a 37-0 win over the Cardinals.

The Rebels exploded for nine runs in the top of the first and never looked back. The Rebels added 13 runs in the second inning, one run in the third and added 14 more runs in the top of the fourth. The Rebels were assisted by 8 Cromwell errors and 7 walks given up by the Cromwell pitching staff.

“We needed a good game tonight,” head coach Lyle Halverson told Northland Sports Online. “We have not had a complete game yet…The Floodwood game was a good win but we still need to improve.”
Halverson also mentioned, “It was nice to see Nummela pitch so well. He will be a big plus for us, we used him in the Esko JV game and now he will be put in our staff after today’s performance.”

The Rebels were led offensively by Rejean Carlson with 4 hits. He scored 4 runs, had 6 RBIs and hit a two-run home run. Michael Unzen, Adam Ryan, Trevor Nummela, Spencer Clough, Ryan Adamczak, Tyler Huso, Abe Young, and Jon Michalski all had three hits for the Rebels in their win. The Rebels also had 14 extra base hits including a home run, two triples and nine doubles. Ryan Adamczak had three doubles for ML-WR.

Hoffman and Nummela combined for the five inning no hitter. Nummela struck out all nine batters he faced on the afternoon. Hoffman added three strikeouts in the Rebel win. Pat Dahl took the loss for the Cardinals.

The Rebels improve to 4-1 on the season and host the Carlton Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon in Moose Lake. Cromwell falls to 0-6 overall on the season. They are in action again Monday afternoon when they host East Central High School.
