The Moose Lake-Willow River golf teams are off to a good start this spring sports season. The boys golf team won their opening meet of the season and tied in their second meet of the year. The Lady Rebels also won their first meet of the season and the second meet because there were not enough girls to compete.

The Moose Lake-Willow River boy’s golf team has five returning lettermen: senior Nick Dougherty, along with sophomores Jacob Indihar, Jake Cisar, Cameron Weisert, and Stephen Gassert. The Rebels are hoping to improve their overall record from last year. Indihar and Cisar qualified for the section finals last year. The Rebels are back in Section 7AA after being in single A for the past two seasons.

The Lady Rebels are young and will be led by sophomore Samantha Schaumburg, freshmen Kayla Larson, Keely Hansen, Megan Huso, and Hannah Dougherty. Dougherty, Huso, Hansen, and Larson competed in the section finals last year. The Rebels will be competing in meets in both the Polar league and the Great Rivers conference.

ML-WR played both Isle and Onamia of the Great River Conference in a dual meet. Both the boys and girls teams came out on top. The boys team finished first with a score of 166, Isle was 170, and Onamia 191. The girls meet saw ML-WR 227, and Onamia 247. Isle did not have a complete girl’s team.

The Rebels’ Jacob Indihar led the Rebel boys with a score of 39 and it was Samantha Schaumburg who led the girls with a 48. Indihar also shot a 38 on Monday in a dual meet with East Central High School; he was second to Jacob Calverley who shot a 36.
